Why Join the Wellington Chamber of Commerce?

Aside from the obvious – great exposure for your business and an opportunity to do business with some of the "movers and shakers" in the community, let us offer you a glimpse into our rich history:

Who we are... What we do...

The Wellington Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1996, one year after the Village of Wellington itself. It was founded by a group of local business people led by local jeweler, Jack Van Dell. Mr. Van Dell became the Chamber’s first president. Our current President is Diana Tashman.

The main reason the Wellington Chamber formed was to focus on what makes Wellington unique from surrounding communities by emphasizing the differences to bring a competitive advantage to Wellington merchants, and to protect those differences for all residents. In fact, it was a return to the idea that chambers of commerce best serve their communities when they are local and when they do not try to be all things to all people. It was also felt that local chambers must look to the betterment of their communities in all facets of community life and not just the business aspect of the communities. The following mission statement embodies these two thoughts:

"The Wellington Chamber of Commerce is organized to advance the general welfare and prosperity of the Village of Wellington so that its residents and all areas of its business community shall prosper. All necessary means of promotion shall be provided and particular attention and emphasis shall be given to the economic, civic, commercial, cultural, industrial, security and educational interests of the village."

The many annual programs of the Chamber reflect a rich tradition of achievement of the goals within the mission statement. For many, the year actually starts in December with the Annual Holiday Lighting in front of the Community Center on Forest Hill Boulevard. This event is led by local elementary school singers and bell ringers. The United States Marines usually show up to lend support and to collect "Toys for Tots." This event is as "local" as you could get and, like the community we serve, is growing every year.

The holiday lighting ceremony gives way to the coming of the New Year and the height of the "season." Newcomers will notice the increase of out-of-state license plates and the smell of straw taking over the whole community.

Thousands of people strong, the equestrians are back and the Wellington Chamber welcomes them in the name of our local merchants.

In addition to our events, the Chamber has been active in village governmental affairs. For example, the Chamber hosted a most successful "Meet the Candidate" forums during the 2008 Mayoral and Village Council Seats.

This past year, the Chamber presented the Fifth Annual Flavors of Wellington event, sponsored by HSBC Bank, FPL and The Sun- Sentinel on May 9th with over 400 people in attendance. This upscale signature Chamber event is open to the entire community to sample the best of what Wellington restaurants have to offer. This will continue as an annual event.

In December of 2007 The Wellington Chamber of Commerce partnered with Stadium Jumping Wellington Equestrian Development, Inc and the Palm Beach Post to present our second Business/Equestrian Expo showcasing 97 of the exceptional Wellington Chamber businesses while tying in our exclusive equestrian community. The Wellington Chamber also offers many opportunities for local merchants and professionals to network and showcase their businesses. These are not just ribbon-cuttings but true community mixers where one can come and meet the mayor, our Board of Directors, your neighbor or maybe your next customer. They are different. They are exciting. They are fun!

In addition, the Wellington Chamber recognizes and awards many of the leaders in the community. Most notably the Chamber gives out Wellington’s Man or Woman of the Year Award. This year, we were privileged to honor four outstanding gentlemen Mark Bellissimo, David Burton, Sr., Eugene Mische and Glenn Straub-renowned for their joint efforts in making Wellington the premier equestrian destination of the world. This event was sponsored by our Chamber Member, Moyle, Flanigan, Katz, Breton, White & Krasker, P.A. Could you be next?

Perhaps one of the most important things the Wellington Chamber does is to maintain an office in the heart of our business community. Located in the Lake Wellington Professional Center, the office currently gets dozens of walk-ins per day. These people are looking for Chamber maps, recommendations and printed brochures. In addition, we get hundreds of calls during the year for Relocation Packages to be mailed to those thinking of moving to the village or vacationing here during season. We are proud to send them the Official Guide to Wellington, which the Chamber publishes once a year, as well as tons of other village information. These people call the Wellington Chamber first because they recognize it by the name! They want the "local" chamber and they get it with us! Come on by. You’ll be glad you did. "It’s our business, to help your business."
