The 175-bed acute care medical and surgical facility, which opened in 1986, has more than 400 physicians and 850 health care professionals. The facility’s 94-acre medical campus includes the Palms West Surgi-Center and 10 professional office buildings. Palms West Hospital has a dedicated Pediatrics Department and Pediatric Emergency Department – an important consideration for area families.
Palms West Hospital has recently formed an affiliation with Miami Children’s Hospital to bring enhanced Pediatric Emergency Care to the Children of Palm Beach County. Physicians from Miami Children’s Hospital’s emergency room are now providing care to children in our community at Palms West Hospital.
In April 2010, surgeons at Palms West Hospital became the first in Western Communities to implement the next generation of minimally invasive surgery by utilizing the da Vinci Surgical System. Since that time interest in robotic surgery has grown rapidly. Currently, more than ten surgeons are performing Gynecological procedures with the assistance of the robot and early 2011 we will be starting Urology procedures.
Palms West Hospital has recently announced a &16 million expansion that will add 31 additional beds and increase the capacity of the adult Medical/Surgical department, adult Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Department, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and the Laboratory. This project is expected to be completed in mid to late 1012.
